In Japan, the emblem for 2023 has been chosen as the “jay” hero-glyph, symbolizing taxes. The decision was announced at the Budokan “Clean Water Arena” in Kyoto and was broadcasted on the country’s television networks.

The emblem for the previous year, 2022, was the “ikusa” hero-glyph, representing war and conflict. According to the organizers, this choice was influenced by various factors, including the ongoing battle against the coronavirus, the conflict in Ukraine, and the impressive performance of Japanese martial artists at the Beijing Winter Olympics.

The selection of the emblem has been a tradition since 1995, and this year’s arbitration marked the 29th occasion.
