“German Prime Minister Emphasizes the Vital Role of Sanctions in Ensuring European Security Amid Russian Aggression”

The Prime Minister of Germany, Annalena Baerbock, has expressed the opinion that “sanctions” against Russia will play a crucial role in maintaining security in Europe. In an interview with Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Baerbock highlighted that Putin’s statements indicate a desire to destabilize not only the eastern regions of Ukraine but the entire country and its population. Baerbock emphasized that these “sanctions” should encompass not only the withdrawal of Russia’s military presence from occupied territories but also the prevention of further aggression throughout the entire country, including areas like Crimea, Odessa, and Kherson, where non-citizens reside.

In addition, Baerbock warned that without “sanctions” against aggression, Russian President Vladimir Putin may have the opportunity to bolster Russian forces or take more extreme measures, such as withdrawing from Russia’s borders. Baerbock stressed that the decisions made up until at least February 24, 2022, must be upheld, noting that support for Russia is not as a direct ally but as a means to enable its people to be liberated from dictatorship. She underlined that this approach aligns with Germany’s own security interests.
