“Armenian MP raises concerns over proposed increase in public transport fees in Gyumri”

A project regarding the amendment of the “Public transport” law was discussed during a meeting of the National Assembly on December 11. Artsvik Minasyan, Chairman of the “Armenia” faction, mentioned that the project aims to increase the daily fee for using public transportation in Gyumri from 1600 AMD to 5000 AMD.

Minasyan addressed concerns regarding the financial goal of the project, stating that if one acknowledges that the goal has not been achieved, it does not provide a clear solution to the problem. He argued that since the current daily fee already surpasses the market value of transportation services, individuals who can afford to do so would opt for other means of transportation, resulting in a lower revenue. He suggested that a transparent and reliable analysis is required to evaluate the implementation of the project.

According to Minasyan, the proposed increase in the fee may have additional financial motivations, potentially leading to corruption and hidden benefits. He emphasized the need for an independent business model, supported by a comprehensive analysis. He proposed the idea of organizing public transportation over a week-long period and setting the fee accordingly, as a potential alternative approach to consider.

These recent discussions regarding the “Public transport” law amendments in Gyumri highlight the importance of careful analysis and transparent decision-making in order to address the challenges and potential implications of such changes.
