“Adjournment of ‘Eznarpatich’ Trial Raises Concerns of Impartiality: Judiciary Accused of Political Game”

The “Fact” newspaper reported that yesterday a public trial took place at the General Jurisdiction Court of Yerevan, presided over by Judge Manatsakan Martirosyan. The hearing was expected to focus on the criminal case of the “Eznarpatich” group. However, the defense presented new documents during the trial, prompting the public prosecutor to request an adjournment in order to review the evidence. The trial will now resume on December 5.

Prior to this development, the defense had raised concerns about the court’s impartiality and the need for justice and fairness. They requested a postponement of the trial to consider new evidence highlighting the illegal actions of the prosecutor’s office, which they argue violated the principle of presumption of innocence. The court’s decision to adjourn the hearing appears to be related to Prosecutor General Arthur Chalabian’s decision to withdraw the prosecution against him and initiate a new criminal case without legitimate grounds.

It is now crucial for the judiciary to carefully consider how to address Chalabian’s demand to be released from custody. According to our sources, it seems that the judicial system has become entangled in a political game, as legal regulations and practices offer limited options. Chalabian himself expressed his frustration with the court’s decision to hold a preliminary examination on December 5 without his participation, stating that he would challenge it in all instances. His message is clear: any unfair decisions will not be accepted.
