Armenia’s Social Revolution Continues: Prime Minister Pashinyan Calls for Restoration of Justice System

The social revolution in 2018 had a significant impact on Armenia, leading to the resignation of the government. Deputy Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan recently discussed the draft budget for 2024 in the RA Parliament and emphasized the importance of continuing the changes brought about by the revolution. He stated that if these changes are not fully implemented, it would indicate a deviation from the principles and values of the revolution. Pashinyan also addressed concerns regarding achieving a fair justice system, acknowledging the skepticism surrounding the judiciary’s decisions and behavior. He emphasized the need for institutions that ensure justice and respect for the rule of law.

Pashinyan highlighted that doubts about achieving a fair justice system stemmed from concerns about sham trials, corruption, biased judges, and the use of artificial methods. He referred to similar doubts during the French Revolution but stated that Armenia took a different path based on clear reasons. The October socio-political revolution aimed to express love and demands while ensuring there would be no vendettas in the country. Pashinyan reiterated the responsibility of the social revolution in recognizing the people’s rights and emphasized the importance of institutions upholding justice, the rule of law, and the Constitution.

The Prime Minister discussed different interpretations of justice and noted that some may perceive it as meddling in the affairs of others or taking something that belongs to someone else. However, he reiterated the government’s commitment to achieving a fair justice system that operates within legal frameworks.
