Government Under Nikol Pashinyan Accused of Resolving Issues through Forceful Methods, HAK Party Appoints David Ghumashyan as Deputy Chairman

The government headed by Nikol Pashinyan is currently employing forceful methods to solve problems, according to HAK spokesperson Levon Zurabyan. During a press conference at the Alaverdi Municipality building on December 5th, Zurabyan announced the appointment of David Ghumashyan as HAK deputy chairman. Zurabyan criticized the government’s lack of interest in dialogue and stated that issues are being resolved through force, rather than through legal procedures. He also questioned the implementation of democratic values and free elections under Pashinyan’s leadership.

It is worth noting that in the elections held in Alaverdi on September 25th, 2022, the “Country of Labor” and “Civil Agreement” alliances secured 13 out of 20 mandates. The runner-up, the “National Congress of Armenia,” was given 1 mandate, as per the law stipulating that the municipality administration should consist of 3 powers. The alliances had previously signed a memorandum of understanding, presenting it as a document of cooperation with the majority and nominating Arkadi Tamazyan as the mayor.

These developments raise questions about the government’s commitment to democratic principles and adherence to the constitution and laws. As citizens, it is important to monitor and engage in the political process to ensure that public interests and political procedures are respected. Transparency and accountability should be the guiding principles of any government, regardless of political power.

This news from Armenia serves as a reminder of the challenges faced in maintaining a democratic society. It emphasizes the importance of an independent and unbiased media to report on government actions and hold those in power accountable. As citizens, we must continue to be informed, involved, and vigilant in safeguarding our democracy.
