“Top Celebrity Chefs Rally in Los Angeles to Support Food Security Operation in Armenia”

The Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU) and World Central Kitchen partnered this fall to provide warm meals and food packages to tens of thousands of forcibly displaced Armenians from Artsakh. Meanwhile, in Los Angeles, five celebrity chefs gathered at the Rossoblu restaurant to support the AGBUxWCK food security operation. This innovative fundraising initiative, called “Chefs for Armenia,” combines fine dining experiences with humanitarian causes. The event at Rossoblu featured renowned chefs, a curated menu of Armenian and international dishes, and a welcoming cocktail and bite showcasing Armenian beverages and cuisine. The “Chefs for Armenia” campaign aims to raise funds and awareness for the Armenian community and its current challenges.

The “Chefs for Armenia” campaign was the brainchild of Alexis Halejian, an Armenian American restaurant marketing and brand developer, and Chef Vartan Abgaryan. Halejian, an AGBU program alumna, was inspired to use her industry connections to organize exceptional dinners and curated spirits and wines to support worthy causes. The event at Rossoblu brought together a diverse group of Armenians and non-Armenians united in their support for Artsakh Armenians. Gohar Stambolyan, the AGBU Western Region Executive Director, provided updates on the situation in Armenia and emphasized the importance of long-term assistance for the community’s recovery.

The successful event at Rossoblu showcased the universal appeal of the “Chefs for Armenia” concept and its potential for replication in other markets. Celebrity chefs and sommeliers expressed their pride in contributing their time and culinary talents to support Armenians in need. Halejian and Abgaryan believe that these chef dinners can be organized in cities with Armenian representation, attracting food lovers from different backgrounds to experience diverse cuisine while raising funds for humanitarian aid. An extensive training guide has been created to help other fundraisers replicate the success of the “Chefs for Armenia” campaign.
