“Yerevan Municipality Proposes Eco-Friendly Vehicle Tax Based on Emissions in 2024 – Armenian Minister Supports Plan”

The Yerevan Municipality is proposing changes in local taxes starting in 2024. The main focus of these changes is to define the rates of vehicle tax based on emission principles. The Armenian Minister of Urban Development, Hayk Konstantinian, has written about this proposal.

Under the proposed changes, Yerevan would establish two categories, A and B. Category A includes streets such as St. Gregory the Illuminator, Agatangeghos, Khanjyan, Alek Manukyan, Charbentz, Koryun, Abovian park, Isahakyan, Moskovyan, Saryan, and Leo, as well as around 40 other streets and alleys. The following tax rates would be implemented for Category A: 300 dram per hour, 2000 dram per day, 5000 dram per week, 18000 dram per month, and 160000 dram per year.

Category B, on the other hand, would have lower tax rates. For Category B, the proposed rates are: 200 dram per hour, 1000 dram per day, 2000 dram per week, 4000 dram per month, and 24000 dram per year.

It’s important to note that these changes are not meant to increase the city’s budget, but rather to promote the development of public transport and increase accessibility in the city center. The Yerevan Municipality is taking steps towards sustainable transportation, and these proposed tax changes are part of that larger effort. Other stakeholders are also involved in this initiative.

One specific plan is to increase the number of bus routes in the city center. The focus of the proposed changes is on public transportation and its improvement as a means of transportation within the city.
