“Latvia’s Interior Minister Assures No Immediate Border Closure with Russia and Belarus Amidst Irregular Migration Concerns”

Latvia’s Interior Minister Richard Kozlovskis has stated that the country does not currently expect a complete closure of its borders with Russia and Belarus. However, Kozlovskis emphasized that Latvia’s border guards are closely monitoring the flow of irregular migration, which poses a potential threat to national security. He stated that if the situation worsens and the influx of migrants jeopardizes national security, Latvia has the option to fully close its eastern border. At present, there have been no reported cases of border violations in Latvia, and the number of illegal migrants in the country has decreased significantly.
