“France to Enforce Comprehensive Smoking Ban by 2032, Expanding Smoke-Free Zones Nationwide – The Guardian Reports”

France is set to introduce a nationwide smoking ban in all beaches, public parks, mountains, and school campuses from 2032, according to The Guardian. The country has already established 7,200 smoke-free zones, with Nice leading the way by becoming the first city to create a smoke-free beach in 2012, a move supported by the French League Against Cancer. The government has decided to take control of smoke-free zones away from local authorities and implement a uniform ban across the nation. In addition to this, the price of cigarettes will rise by 20 cents per pack, currently priced at around 11 euros and set to increase to 12 euros by 2025, and further to 13 euros next year. The government also plans to annually ban the use of electronic cigarettes. It is estimated that smoking in France causes approximately 75,000 premature deaths each year.
