“Russian Peacekeepers Return to Armenia Amid Uncertainty, Reports Haraparar Newspaper”

The Russian Ministry of Defense has announced that the rotation of the Russian peacekeeping contingent stationed in Artsakh, a region disputed between Armenia and Azerbaijan, is completed. The reinforced contingent is now returning to the Republic of Armenia to resume its regular service in the Karabakh region. It is unclear what the Russian peacekeepers will do in Artsakh as there is currently no apparent security threat that they were called to protect. However, there are suggestions that the Russian military presence in Armenia will continue in 2020.

Interestingly, according to a Russian serviceman stationed in Stepanakert, Russian peacekeepers are continuing to enter Armenia from Azerbaijan. They claim to have arrived at Zvartnots airport in Armenia and then proceeded to Artsakh. Although we have not been able to verify this information with the command of the Russian peacekeeping contingent, the Armenian Ministry of Defense has confirmed that Russian peacekeepers are indeed traveling from Yerevan to Artsakh.
