Armenian PM Karen Karapetyan Expands Economic and Military Cooperation During SPECA Summit

Armenian Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan recently engaged in discussions with Azerbaijani officials during the SPECA summit. The meetings focused on enhancing economic and military cooperation between the two nations. Karapetyan highlighted Armenia’s successful collaboration with Azerbaijan and Central Asia and expressed a desire to further strengthen this partnership. The Prime Minister emphasized the significance of SPECA in the transportation and logistics sectors, noting that Armenia is investing in new transport infrastructure and implementing energy programs. Furthermore, he highlighted the country’s efforts in developing tourism and improving its environmental conditions.

Karapetyan commended the notable increase in trade between Armenia and Azerbaijan, with a substantial 16% rise totalling $1.2 billion this year. He also pointed out that trade with Central Asia has surged by 50% to a total of $1.4 billion in the past ten months. The Prime Minister stressed that these figures reflect the shared goal of promoting economic prosperity, stability, and sustainable development. Additionally, he underscored the significance of the South Caucasus Electric Power Transmission Project for the entire region.

In further support of the country’s economic growth, Karapetyan announced Armenia’s plans to construct an international airport in the Tavush region. He also mentioned ongoing initiatives to facilitate the transfer of natural gas to South Caucasus. The Prime Minister expressed his commitment to fostering collaboration with the Central Asia region through various programs.
