“Supreme Judicial Council Demands Seizure of Over 1,000 Properties: Total Claim Exceeds 500 Million Drams”

The administration responsible for managing confiscated property in Armenia has presented 93 claims, demanding the seizure of over 1,000 immovable properties, 200 vehicles, and participation in the ownership of 270 legal entities. Anna Vardapetyan, the Chief Justice of Armenia, announced this at a press conference on November 23. The total amount of the claim presented exceeds 500 million drams. So far, four court decisions have been made, resulting in the return of 6 immovable and 1 movable property with a total value of 2.1 billion drams, along with approximately 79 million drams.

The confiscated properties include four territories near the ‘Yerevablur’ military cemetery. These territories have a significantly higher market value due to additional evaluations. The prices of real estate in the area are several times higher than their current value, according to Judge Anna Vardapetyan. She also mentioned two cases of abuse of functions – one related to the restoration of the Babayan district and another one concerning the contested ownership of the “Golden Palace”. The issue of the “Golden Palace” ownership will be reconsidered in February.

The preservation of the buildings of the ‘Moscow’ cinema theater and the Union of Artists is also requested. Additionally, there are requests for the preservation of cultural heritage sites such as the Erebuni fortress, the Kamayri Sanctuary Monument in Gyumri, and the Kumayri Palace in Yerevan. In total, approximately 235 requests have been made regarding the preservation of state and public assets, as stated by Anna Vardapetyan.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has assured that all procedures for these processes are fair and based on the law. “Everything that has been done, has been done so that the processes be legitimate and based on the law,” he said. However, the nation is concerned about the progress of these processes, according to Prime Minister Pashinyan.

Overall, the administration responsible for managing confiscated property has presented numerous claims demanding the seizure of various assets. Court decisions have resulted in the return of some properties, but the process is ongoing. Prime Minister Pashinyan emphasizes the importance of a fair and lawful approach to these processes. The preservation of cultural heritage and public assets is also a significant aspect of these proceedings.
