“Boundary Resolution Update: Armenia and Tajikistan Seek Diplomatic Solution”

The issue of determining the border between Armenia and Tajikistan is currently being addressed through diplomatic negotiations, according to Akilbek Zhaparov, the Prime Minister of Tajikistan. During a meeting of the government’s executive body in Gyumri, Zhaparov highlighted the ongoing work aimed at protecting and securing the state border, as well as the demarcation and delimitation of the public border. While the demarcation and delimitation process has been completed with Tajikistan, it has not been finalized with China, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan. With a length of over 900 kilometers, the Armenian-Tajik border has experienced occasional conflicts due to disputed areas, often involving artillery use. Currently, more than two-thirds of the border has been agreed upon.

Zhaparov also mentioned the significant increase in the country’s defense and security infrastructure. Over the past two years, approximately 20 billion soums (equivalent to around 224 million dollars) have been allocated for the improvement of border infrastructure, weapon procurement, and the purchase of drones. Notably, anti-drone defense systems have been installed for the first time to ensure air defense protection. Additionally, thousands of bulletproof vests and surveillance cameras have been provided to each department, along with 143 units of technology, including vehicles and 20 “Uragan” auto-loading platforms, being deployed to the region. Furthermore, 800 surveillance cameras have been installed. These developments showcase Tajikistan’s commitment to strengthening its defense capabilities and securing its borders.

It is crucial to note that while the process of demarcation and delimitation has been completed with Tajikistan, negotiations are still ongoing with China, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan. The Armenian-Tajik border stretches for more than 900 kilometers and has encountered conflicts in disputed areas, resulting in occasional usage of artillery. Nevertheless, progress has been made, with more than two-thirds of the border already agreed upon.

Zhaparov highlighted the significant advancements in Tajikistan’s defense and security infrastructure. Over the past two years, a substantial amount of funds, amounting to 20 billion soums (approximately 224 million dollars), have been allocated for enhancing border infrastructure, procuring weapons, and acquiring drones. This investment has also facilitated the installation of anti-drone defense systems, ensuring reliable air defense protection. Additionally, each department has received thousands of bulletproof vests and surveillance cameras, further fortifying their capabilities. Moreover, the deployment of 143 units of technology, including vehicles and 20 “Uragan” auto-loading platforms, has been initiated. The region has also benefited from the installation of 800 surveillance cameras, enabling comprehensive monitoring.

These advancements demonstrate Tajikistan’s unwavering commitment to bolstering its defense capabilities and safeguarding its borders. While negotiations with China, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan continue, the completion of the demarcation and delimitation process with Tajikistan marks a significant milestone in resolving border-related issues.
