“Yerevan Unveils Ambitious Five-Year Development Program: Metro Stations, Cable Cars, and More!”

The Yerevan City Council has recently unveiled a five-year development program for the city from 2024 to 2028, according to a report in the “Publication” newspaper. During this period, Tigran Avinyan, a prominent figure in the council, addressed the residents of Yerevan. As part of the program, the construction of a new metro station called “Ajapnyak” was scheduled for completion by the end of the program, along with two other stations, namely “Surmalu” and “Petaq,” in the central regions of the city.

In an effort to improve transportation within Yerevan, the municipality has also laid out plans to establish a cable car system, connecting the districts of Ajapnyak, Tsitsernakaberd, and Prroshyan. Interestingly, a previous proposal for a cable car system had been put forward by Mane Tandilyan, a mayoral candidate supported by the “Country of Light” movement. It would be interesting to see if this plan will come to fruition.

In addition, the municipality has been in contact with the Ministry of Transport to discuss the replacement of outdated public transport vehicles with electric ones. However, the progress of this initiative remains unclear. Avinyan’s vision for the future also includes the completion of the unfinished Kashatagh district in Artsakh by 2028, covering an area of 8 hectares. Another responsibility of the municipality is to construct a new solid waste landfill before the end of 2028.
