“Member of ‘Mother Armenia’ Group Resigns, Rejects Support for Armenian Protests: ‘I do not sympathize with them,’ says Narine Hayrapetyan”

During a briefing at the Yerevan City Hall on November 22, Narine Hayrapetyan, a member of the “Mother Armenia” group, announced her resignation. Hayrapetyan mentioned that she neither supports nor opposes the movement but made a spontaneous decision to step down. She clarified that her actions during the protests were intentional and driven by her belief in gender equality. When asked about the reason behind her decision, Hayrapetyan responded assertively, stating that she is capable of solving her own problems.

There are concerns about Republic Party Leader Ani Khachatrian also leaving the party, although she can still maintain her independence and make decisions. Hayrapetyan made a statement supporting her teammate and emphasizing the importance of protecting freedom. She also raised complaints about the behavior of certain mayors, specifically mentioning an incident involving the mayor of Shengavit who was allegedly drunk and engaged in violence.

Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan promptly intervened and conveyed his condolences. He also announced that the session would continue the next day. Avinyan later addressed three female members of parliament, Sona Aghekyan, Narine Hayrapetyan, and Ani Khachatryan, stating that they would have the opportunity to speak again. It is worth noting that there was an incident involving the members pouring water on each other.
