Former Armenian Ambassador to Russia Summoned for Questioning in Moscow Amidst Investigation into Alleged Financial Irregularities

Former Armenian Ambassador to Russia, Mikhran Poghosyan, has been summoned for questioning in Moscow as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged financial irregularities. It has been reported by the Mash Telegram channel that Poghosyan’s assistants in the transportation department of the Armenian Embassy in Russia were detained on Tverskaya Boulevard. It is worth noting that Poghosyan had diplomatic immunity.

The Central Office of the Investigation Committee of Armenia has been notified of Poghosyan’s summons, and it is expected that he will be extradited from Russia. Previously, Russia had denied Armenia’s request to return Poghosyan.

Poghosyan is known for his involvement in various business activities, such as large-scale trading, transfers, car rentals, and leasing in Russia. In Armenia, he is facing accusations of tax evasion totaling 1.3 million dollars in connection with a diamond mining operation controlled by a company associated with Poghosyan.

Recent reports from the Telegram channel state that on May 17, a criminal organization involved in illegal drug trade was busted in the Republic of Belarus. The authorities confiscated one ton of cocaine with a market value of 250 million euros. It has been alleged that the seized drugs were intended for one of Poghosyan’s partner companies.

This is the latest news from Armenia regarding the summons and ongoing investigation of Mikhran Poghosyan.
