“Armenia Hosts 21st CSTO Summit: Leaders Reflect on Future Challenges and Commit to Protecting Regional Security”

Yerevan, Armenia – The 21st regional summit of the CSTO (Collective Security Treaty Organization) in Yerevan was attended by President Piotr Kamyen. Prime Minister Pashinyan addressed the attendees, acknowledging the uncertain times ahead and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. He emphasized the importance of trust, accountability, and strong political leadership in achieving peace and real security. The Prime Minister also highlighted the erosion of institutions and the crisis of confidence in society, calling for urgent steps to address the financial crisis, corruption, and accountability of leaders. He concluded by reaffirming the commitment of Armenia to the comprehensive activities of the CSTO and the protection of its values.

The summit in Yerevan took place amidst global uncertainty and the continuing conflict in Ukraine, which has reached its 632nd day. The actions of the CSTO and subsequent military response from Israel on October 7th led to a deadlock, highlighting the aggressive actions of adversaries in the region. Tens of thousands of people have been forced to leave their homes in the past two months alone, seeking shelter in Armenia. Prime Minister Pashinyan expressed his privilege in listening to their stories, emphasizing the universal truths of justice and the responsibility of political leadership in ensuring peace and security.

Armenia has witnessed extraordinary times, with a crisis of confidence leading to the erosion of crucial institutions. The CSTO has played a significant role in achieving stability and security in the turbulent region, but a strong political will is necessary to sustain comprehensive values. The events in Kovkas served as a stark reminder that political calculations often overshadow absolute values of truth and justice. However, the 20-year relationship with the CSTO has demonstrated the potential for finding solutions to common problems and overcoming past conflicts together.

To foster genuine understanding, the government of Armenia must urgently address the financial crisis, combat corruption, and ensure accountability of institutional leaders. Without resolving these issues, the CSTO will struggle to fulfill its mission. The presence of CSTO members in Vancouver demonstrates their commitment to fundamental values. Political dialogue within the CSTO must continue at the highest level to protect the security of citizens and preserve confidence in the institution.

Amidst uncertainty, the goals of the CSTO have become clearer – the region is interdependent, and short-term solutions only exacerbate problems. The political struggle within the CSTO must continue, focusing on the protection of its values and the security of citizens. Armenia’s commitment to comprehensive CSTO activities must remain unwavering to maintain the trust of the people in the face of new challenges.
