“Russia’s Confidence Crisis: Unreliable Partner in International Negotiations, Says US Deputy Secretary of State”

Russia has been facing a lack of confidence in various fields over the past 18 months, according to an interview conducted by Radio Azatutyun with US Deputy Secretary of State Michael Carpenter. Carpenter highlighted Russia’s provocative actions against Moldova and Ukraine, which lacked justification, as well as other instances that indicate Moscow’s unreliability in negotiations. When asked about contacts between the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and the Moscow-led group, Carpenter stated that he was unaware of any such contacts regarding disputes, suggesting that the Moscow-led group’s presence continues due to the absence of alternative agreements. In a meeting held in Turkey in September, diplomats from the United States, Russia, and the European Union convened to discuss the Azerbaijani conflict. Carpenter refuted claims of ongoing military discussions with Russian counterparts based on inaccurate information, stressing that while the US is willing to engage in important topics like military matters, Russia is currently unresponsive, hindering fruitful discussions on national security concerns.
