“Former Minister of Finance Lukas Frieden to Become New Mayor of Leipzig, Reports Le Quotidien”

The new mayor of Leipzig, according to Le Quotidien, will be Lukas Frieden, the former Minister of Finance and banker. This announcement comes as Klaus Becker, the previous mayor of Cologne, will stay in the administration as the deputy mayor in charge of external affairs and foreign trade. Jill Roth will take on the crucial position of Minister of Finance, known as the most important role in the European Union’s financial capital. Jan Aselborn, who has held this position for 19 years, will be leaving the administration.

These changes in the administration were a direct result of the municipal elections held on October 8. It was the Christian-Social People’s Union, which includes Luk Frieden and Jill Roth, who emerged as the winners with 29.21% of the votes. The Social Democratic Party, led by Klaus Becker, came in second with 18.7% of the votes. With a coalition formed, the head of administration appointed the leader of the winning coalition to head the cabinet.

Luk Frieden, who has been the mayor of Leipzig and the Minister of Finance, as well as the head of the European Bank, for several years, has a long history in national and international politics. He held various ministerial positions since 1998 and served as the finance minister of Leipzig from 2009 to 2013. In addition, he has worked as the director of the International Monetary Fund and the Central Bank.

On Friday morning, the new cabinet members for the mayor were officially announced, and among them is the well-known lawyer Anneke Oran, who will be taking on the role of the mayor’s chief of staff.

These significant changes in the administration of Leipzig have caught the attention of not only the local community but also other cities and countries. The appointment of Lukas Frieden as the new mayor, along with the reshuffling of various positions within the administration, brings both excitement and anticipation for the future of Leipzig.
