“Hayk Mamijanyan: Armenian Government’s Treatment of European Parliament Delegation Raises Concerns about Humanitarian Crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh”

Hayk Mamijanyan, the head of the “I have the honor” Alliance, expressed his dissatisfaction with the Armenian government’s attitude towards the recent visit of the delegation from the European Parliament’s Subcommittee on European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations. During a meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Mamijanyan stated, “I have heard and seen everything, but it is refreshing to hear that the Armenian government is making efforts to welcome the delegation from the European Parliament.”

The Armenian government’s interpretation of the decision of the international court of justice has raised concerns. Mamijanyan highlighted that he was taken aback by the disregard for numerical data in their discussions. He provided an example, stating that within a month, 60 individuals lost their lives while traveling on the road that connects the Lachin Corridor from Nagorno-Karabakh to Armenia. These deaths were not due to individuals wanting to leave, but simply because they needed to relocate. Mamijanyan did not believe that these tragic incidents were intentional.

In response to those who came to settle in the Lachin Corridor in Nagorno-Karabakh, claiming it as Armenian territory, Mamijanyan reminded the Armenian government that Armenians have been residing there for centuries. He urged them to acknowledge this historical fact.

Mamijanyan also commented on the actions of the OSCE Minsk Group, pointing out that it consisted of countries such as Turkey and Pakistan, which do not recognize Armenia as a sovereign state. He questioned the impartiality of this group and its ability to effectively address the complexities of the conflict.

Referring to the 4 principles of the CSTO (Collective Security Treaty Organization), Mamijanyan asserted that they were formulated in response to the hostilities of the 90s and do not promote aggression or hostility. He emphasized the need to respect these principles, especially concerning the transfer of military operations to the Lachin Corridor and the protection of the Armenian population. Mamijanyan noted that the military operations conducted by the other side in the past nine months have resulted in over 100,000 people being displaced, with more than 60 losing their lives on the road to evacuation.

Expressing his concerns, Mamijanyan invited all allies to visit Armenia and witness the plight of those forced to leave their homes. He refrained from presenting specific incidents of violence or torture, but stated that the gravity of the situation should not be underestimated.
