“Ambassador Sullivan Speaks on National Security: Biden-Xi Meeting to Focus on Military Communication and Indo-Pacific Concerns”

White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan recently discussed the issue of national security in an interview with CBS. He highlighted the topics that will be addressed during the upcoming meeting between the leaders of the United States and China, President Joe Biden and President Xi Jinping.

Sullivan emphasized the importance of military communication in managing competition and preventing conflicts between the two countries. He stated, “We need clear channels of communication to avoid any misunderstandings, miscalculations, or misinterpretations. This communication should occur at various levels, ranging from the highest officials in our national security leadership to operational and maritime domains.”

Regarding concerns about China’s naval power and its potential threat to American interests in the Indo-Pacific region, Sullivan stated that the US President could raise this issue with his Chinese counterpart. He explained, “The US has longstanding concerns about the sale of Iranian oil, which have been reinforced during the Biden administration through increased sanctions. The Iranian nuclear program and other threats posed by Iran in the region, as well as actions taken against US forces, will also be on the agenda.”
