“Prime Minister Tigran Khachatryan Celebrates Local Self-Governance Day with Special Concert and Calls for Stronger Integration into National Governance Structure”

Local self-governance day was celebrated today with a special concert attended by Prime Minister Tigran Khachatryan, Minister of Territorial Administration Suren Sanoyan, Ararat Regional Governor Sdrak Tevonyan, regional governors, community heads, and representatives of international organizations.

According to the Ministry of Territorial Administration, Prime Minister Tigran Khachatryan welcomed everyone and congratulated them on the 27th anniversary of the establishment of the local self-governance system.

“I congratulate all representatives of local self-governance on this important occasion, thanking them for their successful work and responsible actions in their daily activities. The effectiveness of our reforms in the spheres of public administration and local self-governance is ensured by the implementation of necessary changes in the system’s structure. Therefore, it is particularly important to establish close cooperation between local self-governance and territorial governance systems and to ensure the integration of these systems into the national governance structure,” said Sanoyan.

In his speech, the Prime Minister emphasized that the current political changes in the country, implemented during the 27 years of the self-governance system’s activity, not only ensured its establishment but also allowed it to develop.

“The strong and efficient bodies of local self-governance are an integral part of the political system and contribute to social and economic development,” added Khachatryan.

The event was also attended by Claudia Luciani, the Head of the Council of Europe Office in Armenia, who noted that the RA Government attaches great importance to local self-governance in Armenia.

“Effective and accountable local self-governance bodies are key elements of the democratic structure and contribute to the success of social and environmental policies,” emphasized Luciani.

The event was also attended by Eduard Hovhannisyan, the Mayor of Armavir, and Karen Mkrtchyan, the Mayor of Artashat.

The second part of the event featured a panel discussion entitled “Changes in the TIM field in Armenia and the development prospects of digital governance,” during which the achievements of the TIM system during its 27 years of operation, as well as the problems and challenges it faced, were discussed.
