Celebrating the Legacy of Literary Critic Edward Jrbashyan at Grand Event in Armenia

A grand event took place on November 8th at the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of literary critic and academician Edward Jrbashyan. The Vice-President of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia, academician Yuri Suvaryan, greeted the participants and highlighted the impact and significance of Jrbashyan’s life and work in the field of literary criticism. Suvaryan proposed renaming the department of literary studies at the Institute of Literature of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia to the department of Edward Jrbashyan’s literary studies and aesthetics. He emphasized the potential for further advancements in literary studies with Jrbashyan’s support.

Rector of Yerevan State University, Professor Aram Simonyan, spoke about his personal experience as a student of Jrbashyan and acknowledged the remarkable example set by Jrbashyan’s dedication to Armenian culture. Simonyan described Jrbashyan’s work as characterized by a deep respect for the subject matter and an ability to objectively evaluate the scientific community’s best representatives. Jrbashyan’s fundamental work continues to serve as an inspiration for young literary researchers.

The event was attended by various notable figures such as Anna Asatryan, the rector of the Institute of Arts of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia; David Gasparian, the head of the department of history of the Institute of Arts; Professor Suren Abrahamian, the dean of the Faculty of Armenian Studies and Oriental Studies at Yerevan State University; and Ashot Djrbashyan, the head of the new section of Armenian literature at the Institute of Literature of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia.

The symposium will continue its work on November 9 at the Faculty of Armenian Studies at Yerevan State University and on November 10 at the Institute of Literature of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia.
