“New Car Imports to Russia Soar to Record High in October 2023, Chinese Cars Dominate Market: Autostat”

A new record has been set for the import of new cars to Russia in October 2023, according to Autostat, an analytical agency. In the previous month, a total of 86,800 new cars were imported, surpassing the previous record of 80,800 cars set in the same period last year. This marks a significant increase compared to the previous year, with a total of 546,800 new cars imported in the past 10 months, a fourfold increase.

When it comes to the sources of these imported cars, China takes the lead, accounting for 85% of imports in October. Germany follows with 8.6%, and Japan trails behind with 3% of the market share.

The data also reveals that the import of used cars has experienced a tremendous growth in Russia. A total of 342,600 used cars were imported in the past 10 months, representing a record volume for the Russian used car market. In October alone, 22,000 used cars were imported, while the lowest figure was recorded in September at 17,200 units.

Japanese used cars dominate the market, accounting for 51.2% of imports in October. Armenia and Belarus come next with 12.5% and 12.4% respectively. These figures signify a growing trend in the Russian used car market and indicate the changing preferences of consumers.

With the import of both new and used cars on the rise, the Russian automotive industry is experiencing a significant boost. This surge in imports not only demonstrates the growing demand for cars in Russia but also highlights the country’s growing economy and disposable income among its population.
