Since the beginning of the conflict in Gaza, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) has reported that one child is killed and two are injured on average every ten minutes. The Ministry of Health also shared staggering figures, stating that a total of 9,488 individuals have lost their lives in the Gaza Strip since October 7. Shockingly, 70% of these casualties are civilians, including children and the elderly. According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), approximately 1,400 Israeli and foreign civilians have lost their lives in Israel. This information is included in the UNRWA statement, underscoring the devastating impact of the conflict on all sides.

The situation in Gaza is not only resulting in loss of life but also poses significant challenges to the already fragile healthcare system. The UNRWA statement emphasizes that the health system in Gaza is deteriorating due to shortages of medications, medical supplies, and spare parts. Further exacerbating the issue are restrictions on the movement of medical staff and the destruction of vital roads and infrastructure, making it arduous to transfer patients to hospitals.
