“Artsakh Passports Serve as Travel Documents, but Not Proof of Citizenship, Says Deputy Minister”

The passports of the residents of Artsakh serve as travel documents, although they cannot be used as proof of citizenship. During a meeting with journalists at the RA Government Press Center on November 6, Deputy Minister of Migration and Home Affairs Armen Ghazaryan shared this information. He mentioned that the exact number of Artsakh residents who have applied for Armenian citizenship is currently unknown. Similarly, he couldn’t provide a figure for the number of Artsakh residents who have left Armenia. However, he did explain that the process of granting temporary and refugee status to displaced persons is carried out collectively, under the management’s decision. Ghazaryan emphasized that the procedure for granting citizenship to displaced persons from Artsakh has been simplified to the maximum extent. To ensure efficiency, an electronic queue system has been introduced at the Yerevan passport office specifically for displaced persons from Artsakh, who will receive expedited service. Additionally, a separate room will be designated in Yerevan for accepting applications from displaced persons, aiming to alleviate the burden and inconvenience they may encounter.
