“Controversy and Concerns Surround New Mayor Appointment in Malatia-Sebastia District, Armenia”

The “Hraparak” newspaper reported that Romik Mkhitarian, the head of the Malatia-Sebastia administrative district and associated with the “Republic” party, introduced Arman Pambukhchyan as the new mayor to the staff. Pambukhchyan previously served as the director of the Yerevan Mall. Mkhitarian has recently faced criticism for his appointment of Arman Barhudaryan, who was dismissed from the NSS and accused of exceeding his official powers, to the Public Council.

The changes in the administration have caused dissatisfaction among the staff, with some expressing concerns about the possibility of further illegal actions. Others are uncertain about the leadership of the new mayor. Gegham Khachatryan, the director of the operational department in the department of city infrastructure and land use, has been particularly vocal about his dissatisfaction. Khachatryan informed his subordinates that it was his son who had been designated as the mayor of the commune, rather than his friend Romik Mkhitarian.

Throughout the day yesterday, the sign indicating the appointment of the new mayor was removed. It is important to note that Mkhitarian is also the director of the Central Yerevan Mall.
