“NSS Special Security Service Delivers Successful Results in Ensuring Public Order and Security: Highlights and Challenges Summarized in Operational Meeting”

On November 3, the Department of Internal Affairs held an operational meeting to discuss the results of the 9-month operational-service activities of the NSS Special Security Service and territorial bodies in 2023. The meeting was attended by members of the college of the security service, central apparatus, regional, and territorial divisions. Vahe Ghazaryan, the head of the Department of Internal Affairs, chaired the meeting.

Vardan Vardanyan, the head of the special security service, presented the report on the results of the operational-service activities. It was noted that the special security service has successfully met the challenges set before it during the reporting period. The agency has ensured the operational situation, maintained public order and security, and preserved a peaceful and stable social environment.

Vardan Vardanyan analyzed the dynamics of registered law violations and highlighted that the total number of registered violations of the law has increased by 12.1% in the country during the first 9 months of 2023. Out of the 29,682 registered cases, 81.1% are minor and moderate offenses, which pose the least threat to public order and security.

However, there has been an increase in serious offenses, primarily due to the rise in the number of crimes. Homicide cases have decreased by 10, while domestic violence, traffic accidents, sexual offenses, smuggling and drug trafficking, cybercrime, and terrorism cases have seen a significant increase.

On the other hand, there has been a decrease in incidents related to public health violations, security breaches in information technology, and housing disputes. Within the framework of criminal proceedings, the number of cases related to arms and ammunition possession has increased by 56.7%. Unregistered weapons accounted for most firearm violations.

The number of drug-related offenses has also increased, with 397 cases related to drug trafficking and 289 cases related to drug seizures. Additionally, there have been 2294 cases of smuggling, including 1088 cases of counterfeit currency smuggling with a total value of around 4.7 billion AMD and 17 million USD.

Vahe Ghazaryan emphasized the importance of the achieved results in ensuring public order and security. He expressed gratitude to all law enforcement officers for their dedication and hard work. The Department of Internal Affairs will continue to prioritize the safety and well-being of the population and take measures to enhance the social guarantees and rights of law enforcement officers.
