“Launch of Program ‘Assistance to Electoral Process in Armenia’ Aims to Strengthen Democracy and Promote Transparency”

The Central Electoral Commission, in collaboration with the Financial Support of the Unified Kingdom Administration and the Armenian Branch of IFES, has announced the launch of the program “Assistance to Electoral Process in Armenia”.

According to NEWS.am, on November 3, the Head of the Unified Electoral Administration of Armenia, Johan Galagher, who is also an election observation expert from OSCE/ODIHR, and the Director of the Armenian Office of IFES, Jerome Léron, signed a memorandum of cooperation.

The program aims to achieve three main objectives: improving cybersecurity measures, enhancing transparency in political financing, and providing international assistance in monitoring and advancing the civic education of Armenian citizens.

Johan Galagher, the OSCE/ODIHR election expert, expressed his satisfaction with the program and highlighted how the municipal elections held in Yerevan on September 17 served as a positive example of democratic processes in Armenia. He emphasized that the program intends to ensure the participation of citizens in all electoral processes.

Jerome Léron, the director of the Armenian Office of IFES, also expressed his joy at the signing of the memorandum and the expansion of cooperation with the CEC.

President of the CEC, Vahe Hakobyan, thanked the audience and emphasized the crucial role of democracy in the development of Armenia. He stated that free, fair, and competitive elections are the cornerstone of democracy. Additionally, he mentioned that there will be no elections held in 2024 and 2025, allowing the CEC team to focus on strengthening electoral systems.
