“Former Yerevan Mayor and City Hall Employees Arrested in Corruption Scandal: Shockwaves in Armenian Politics”

The authorities in Yerevan have made arrests, including former Mayor Arman Barseghyan, along with several other employees of the city hall, according to a report by Hraparak.am. The leaders of the protest are said to be Ashot Khachatryan, the head of the municipality of urban development, Harutyun Aramyan, the head of the commercial department, and Van Harutyunyan, an employee of the municipality of urban development. The initial information suggests that they are accused of serious embezzlement related to construction activities. Former mayor Sasha Katvalyan may also be implicated, as he “appointed” Barseghyan, who held the position until December 2022 when he was released due to a political decision that removed responsibility from his sponsor, Romik Mkhitaryan of the “Republic” party.
