Armenia and Iran are collaborating on a new bridge construction project on the Araks River, according to an announcement by Armenia’s Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, Kristine Ghalechyan, during a briefing with Sputnik Armenia. The current focus is on conducting technical studies to determine the necessary specifications and parameters for the bridge. Ghalechyan emphasized the importance of evaluating the durability of the bridge. This collaboration between Armenia and Iran is considered the most practical and efficient option. While the construction of the new bridge is ongoing, Armenia is also working on revitalizing the “Meghri” checkpoint to enhance the movement of goods and vehicles, utilizing modern technology.
One significant aspect of the collaboration between Armenia and Iran is the construction of the Yerevan-Kajaran road, the most crucial section of the “North-South” highway. This construction involves the companies “Abad Rahan Pars” and “Arianatel Sadeh” and was initiated through an agreement signed in Yerevan in October 2023. Additionally, an Armenian-Iranian working group has been established to work on constructing another section of the “North-South” highway on the Araks River.
During the construction process, there is a small opening at the border between Armenia and Iran as the bridge is being built. Furthermore, an existing building in the area is deteriorating, prompting Armenia to revitalize the “Meghri” checkpoint. This revitalization will involve the incorporation of modern technology, which is expected to facilitate the movement of goods and vehicles more efficiently.
It is crucial to note that the collaboration between Armenia and Iran for the construction of the new bridge is progressing steadily. However, the completion of technical studies is necessary to determine the length, width, durability, and other essential parameters of the structure. Everyone involved is encouraged to be patient and await the outcome of these technical studies, which will provide valuable insights for the successful construction of the bridge.
As the collaboration between Armenia and Iran continues to blossom, the revitalization of the “Meghri” checkpoint adds another layer of efficiency to the movement of goods and vehicles between the two countries. This modernization process, accompanied by the ongoing technical studies for the construction of the bridge on the Araks River, showcases the commitment and dedication of both nations to enhance their transportation infrastructure and strengthen their bilateral relationship.
