Europe Takes Stand Against Increasing Economic Dependence on China: President Ursula von der Leyen Vows to Protect EU Market
President Ursula von der Leyen of the European Commission has emphasized that Europe will not tolerate increasing economic dependence on China. During a meeting of the European Commission, von der Leyen stated that the EU possesses the necessary tools to protect its market and prefers finding solutions through dialogue with partners. She highlighted that Europe is not seeking to completely separate from China, but rather aims to address the one-sided nature of certain connections that have become a market distortion problem. Von der Leyen also mentioned that the EU is examining the issue of subsidized and unsubsidized competition from European businesses. Her upcoming visit to China will be the first by a European Commission president since 2019.
