“British Student Sets Record with 60 Failed Attempts to Pass Driving Test”

The Guardian reported that the driver’s license of an automotive school student in Great Britain was revoked after his 60th attempt at passing the driving test. The student had taken the initial test at the Redhill testing center in Wusterchire city, setting a record for the most attempts. It is worth noting that in other regions, there have been students who have taken the test 53, 55, and 57 times before achieving a positive result. The examiner dedicated 60 hours and 1380 pounds sterling to conduct the test.

Transport department data reveals that the percentage of passing visual tests has declined by 21% over the past 15 years, now standing at 44%. As per the standard system, student drivers can only register for the practical test after successfully passing the visual test. Each attempt costs 23 pounds sterling and takes approximately one hour. Individuals who do not pass the test must wait at least three working days before being eligible to retake it.

The visual test consists of 50 questions that assess the test-taker’s knowledge of traffic rules in various scenarios. To achieve a positive evaluation, at least 43 questions must be answered correctly. Additionally, students are presented with 14 videos showcasing real-life driving situations, and they must assess the potential danger and obtain at least 44 points out of 75.

These recent developments have caused concern within the driving school industry, with the pass rate decreasing and the number of attempts increasing. It is important to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the driving test process to ensure that qualified drivers are on the road.
