“Great Britain Enhances Ukrainian Air Defense with Advanced Martlet Drones”

Great Britain has reportedly supplied additional advanced unmanned Martlet drones to Ukraine, according to The Times. While there has been no official announcement from British authorities regarding the transfer of these drones, Ukraine mentioned their use as early as 2022. The Secretary of State for Transport of the United Kingdom, Grant Shapps, previously stated that the UK would offer assistance to Ukraine in various areas, including air defense. The Martlet drones, produced by French company Thales, are equipped with a 1.5 Mach laser-guided missile and are designed for targeting objects in Belgium.

Thales describes the Martlet drone as a versatile missile system that can be utilized for various purposes. It can be equipped with thermal imaging cameras, night vision devices, and electromagnetic sensors. Additionally, the drone can be carried by the Starstreak man-portable air-defense system, which is also supplied by the UK. The Martlet drone has a length of 1.3 meters, a wingspan of 76 mm, and weighs 13 kg. Its warhead weighs 3 kg, and it has a flight range of 8 km. The specific number of Martlet drones transferred to Ukraine has not been disclosed.
