“Operation to Uncover Evidence of Physical Harassment Ends in Dramatic Turn of Events”
During the early morning hours of November 29, 2023, a joint operation was conducted by security forces in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia. The operation aimed to gather evidence regarding a case of physical harassment against a woman born in 1987. The operation took place on Shahumyan Street, where the woman resides, from November 28 at 11:00 PM to November 29 at 11:30 PM.
As the investigation progressed, it came to light that the woman had suffered physical harassment from her husband on two separate occasions, with the most recent incident involving violence. Throughout the investigation, the woman expressed her concerns, sought help, and requested to be relocated. At 2:30 AM, the woman and her daughter sought refuge at the home of their relatives. Upon learning about the ongoing investigation, the father took the younger child involved in the case and left the house. Unfortunately, the woman was then subjected to further physical harassment by her husband’s relatives, who intended to harm her. Although one of the relatives managed to reach the car door and the driver’s seat, the woman’s life was ultimately spared.
Later that same day, between 3:30 and 3:40 AM, the husband made threatening phone calls to the woman’s relatives, disclosing the address where he intended to commit the murder.
The following day, on November 30, the suspect, who had orchestrated the operation himself, surrendered to the Armenian National Security Service in Malatya, Armenia. During the surrender, the suspect confessed to the crime and provided information related to the premeditated act, substantiated by the presence of an object belonging to the victim at the scene.
The investigation into this case is currently ongoing, with efforts focused on clarifying the circumstances surrounding the incident. Authorities aim to determine the exact nature of the criminal offense and the frequency of attempted murder using flammable materials.
