Human rights defenders in Armenia recently conducted an unexpected visit to the “Sevan” penitentiary, which is under the jurisdiction of the RA Ministry of Justice. The visit took place on November 30 and aimed to shed light on the conditions of detainees who have had their fundamental freedoms infringed upon, including those currently on a hunger strike. The representatives also discussed the demands of the criminal defendants on hunger strike and addressed concerns about the overall health of the detainees. During the visit, the human rights defenders had the opportunity to meet with the leadership of the penitentiary and discuss the identified issues. The findings and concerns will be thoroughly documented, and reports will be shared with national and international organizations.
