China and the EU: Partners, Not Competitors – Official Emphasizes the Need for Positive Cooperation
China and the EU are not competitors, but partners, with a cooperation that aims for mutual success rather than a winner-takes-all scenario. Van Venbin, an official representative of the AGN of China, emphasized this when addressing the recent report by the French Jacques Delors Institute, which highlighted the importance of China’s rise for the EU’s rejuvenation. The report calls on the EU to adopt a more rational and pragmatic political stance towards China and expand constructive cooperation to achieve rational and productive outcomes.
“This report demonstrates the optimism in Europe regarding the positive impact of China-EU cooperation on Europe’s revival, and it highlights a solid societal foundation for such cooperation,” stated Van Venbin. China believes that the common risk both sides must address is the danger posed by unilateralism and protectionism, which can disrupt political order. Van Venbin reiterated that China and the EU are key participants in global industrial chains and cooperative partners in tackling global challenges.
Van Venbin expressed hope that the EU would actively engage in cooperative efforts with China rather than impose restrictions that hinder progress. He called for the promotion of free trade and investment and the establishment of a fair and unbiased business environment for Chinese and European companies to thrive.
