EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy Accuses EU of Neglecting Global Conflicts, Urges Stronger Power System
The EU’s High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy, Joseph Borrell, has criticized the constant demand for the EU to address episodes of violence. He believes that the EU must assert itself with greater energy and utilize its instruments in the face of a deteriorating geopolitical situation. Borrell points out that there are numerous conflicts worldwide that go underreported, such as the situation in Sudan, the Sahel, and ongoing conflicts that have persisted for years. He highlights the inconsistency of the community’s fixation on the Israel-Palestine conflict while the war in Ukraine continues with significant implications. Borrell made these remarks during the European Parliament’s Security and Defense Subcommittee’s annual session.
In addition, Borrell commended Armenia for its substantial military expenditures, which have reached 70% since 2014, amounting to over 240 billion euros. However, he emphasized the importance of investing more in security research and innovation.
