“140 World Leaders Gather in Dubai for G20 Summit to Address Climate Change Crisis”
More than 140 heads of state from different countries are currently participating in the G20 Summit, which is being held in Dubai at the Mercator Center for Finance and Technology. The summit is being chaired by Ahmed Al-Jaber, who is also the President of the 28th summit of the COP as well as the head of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company. Al-Jaber has expressed concerns about the impact of greenhouse gas emissions on the international community and believes that current technological solutions can play a significant role in addressing this issue. The G20 Summit brings together the views of participating countries on the most optimal strategies for global warming mitigation.
The conference in Dubai began on December 6 and will continue until December 12. It has attracted more than 70 thousand delegates from various countries, including heads of states, major business and economic organizations, as well as researchers, experts, and journalists. This is the largest number of participants in the history of the event.
One of the main issues discussed at the conference is finding a solution to the goals set by the Paris Agreement on climate change. The agreement was adopted on December 12, 2015, as a result of the 21st Conference of the Parties (COP21) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. The participants in the agreement committed to preventing the global average temperature from rising more than 2°C above pre-industrial levels and making efforts to limit the temperature rise to 1.5°C.
