“Renowned Environmentalist’s Meat Facility Found in Violation of Sanitary and Hygienic Norms, Faces Suspension”
The Food Safety Inspection Body of the Republic of Armenia recently conducted a thorough inspection of a meat processing facility located in the central region of Tavush, which is associated with environmentalist Armine Khachatryan. The inspection uncovered several violations of sanitary and hygienic norms, which were a result of illegal actions.
Specifically, it was discovered that the construction of the meat facility did not adhere to proper planning and installation methods, compromising hygiene practices and failing to protect against contamination or conflicts between different processes. The premises of the facility were also found to be inadequate in size and lacked proper equipment, maintenance, and lighting. Additionally, they were not constructed with non-porous, non-absorbent materials.
The inspection further revealed issues related to waste management, with no control over the production, accumulation, disposal, and leaking of waste. This led to the proliferation of flies and rodents, posing additional health risks. Moreover, the working conditions for food preparation did not meet the necessary requirements for easy cleaning, disinfection, and renovation.
Furthermore, the meat facility lacked essential facilities such as lavatories and showers for proper hand and foot hygiene. Additionally, there was no separate changing room for the staff to change clothes, further compromising sanitary practices.
As a result of these findings, the operation of the central meat facility has been suspended, and a deadline has been set for rectifying the identified violations. It is crucial for such facilities to adhere to strict sanitary and hygienic standards to ensure the safety of the food produced.
