“Deputy Prime Minister Highlights Armenia’s Commitment to Technological and Innovative Advancement at National Conference”

The Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, Zhanana Andreasyan, attended the conference titled “Armenia’s Technological and Innovative National System: From Problems to Solutions” organized by the Ministry of High-Tech Industry. The conference, held under the “Innovate” program, aimed to address the development and challenges of Armenia’s scientific, educational, and technological communities. It also focused on finding solutions and ways to enhance Armenia’s technological and innovative system to ensure national security and competitiveness.

The conference was well-attended by representatives from various scientific, educational, and technological institutions, as well as experts in innovation in Armenia. Notable attendees included the Chief of Staff of the National Assembly, Hakob Arshakyan, and the Minister of High-Tech Industry, Robert Kocharyan.

During the conference, a wide range of issues were discussed, such as the development of Armenia’s scientific and technological infrastructure, challenges in the field, and the importance of knowledge for national security and development in Armenia.

Deputy Prime Minister Zhanana Andreasyan expressed her appreciation for the conference and emphasized the government’s commitment to the development of scientific, educational, and technological communities in Armenia. She highlighted the government’s clear goals of promoting knowledge integration, training young professionals, fostering innovation, consolidating results, and advancing technological progress. In the past three years, the government has significantly increased investments in knowledge, reaching over $30 million, leading to visible improvements in the field.

Andreasyan further shared that there has been a rise in the number of researchers, with a significant portion dedicated to young researchers under the age of 35. Starting from January 2024, salaries of researchers will increase by approximately 170%. The government has also made substantial acquisitions of scientific equipment, including some worth over $1 million, enabling large-scale and real-time research. Proposals for equipment procurement totaling $4.2 billion have already been collected this year.

Deputy Prime Minister Hakob Arshakyan announced the proposal to establish a Center for Supercomputing and Geostrategic Studies with an estimated budget of $8 million by 2024. This proposal will be discussed further in an upcoming meeting of the Government.

Minister of High-Tech Industry Robert Kocharyan emphasized the significance of knowledge in Armenia’s development, stating that it is not just the work of geniuses but an organized and systematic process. He highlighted the ongoing changes in the social and technological spheres in Armenia and the ability of society and researchers to navigate complex realities.

The conference also included discussions on the capabilities and requirements of academic institutions and institutes, the development of a scientific hub in Armenia, and the integration of academic and scientific communities for research and development.

This conference aligns with the Government of Armenia’s goal of advancing knowledge, education, innovation, and scientific and technological progress for the overall development of the country.
