Former Prime Minister Testifies: Karapetyan Calls for Sargsyan’s Resignation, Exposes Corruption Scandals
In April 2023, a rally took place to recognize Karabakh. Former Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan, who testified in court on November 28, called on former President Serzh Sargsyan to resign, referring to the rally where violence was advocated.
In October 2022, Nikol Pashinyan recognized the territorial integrity of Artsakh, leading to Azerbaijan closing the Lachin corridor. This move was justified by the belief that if Artsakh belongs to Azerbaijan, there is no need for a corridor presence and instead Russian peacekeepers should be stationed there.
In May, Karapetyan acknowledged the recognition of Karabakh in the territory of Armenia, specifically pointing out that Stepanakert is within 86,600 square kilometers. He expressed his belief that if this recognition had happened earlier, the war would have ended more swiftly and Karabakh would not have been as heavily affected.
When discussing corruption and embezzlement, Karapetyan highlighted the discrepancy between the allegations and the reality. He mentioned that despite acknowledging some instances of embezzlement, the previous government also spent significant amounts on weaponry, including at least 4 billion dollars on Azeri weapons. The former Prime Minister also referenced the wealth accumulated by certain individuals within the government during their time in power.
