Armenian Prime Minister Considers Exiting Russia-led Security Bloc, Accuses CSTO of Neglecting Obligations
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has suggested that Armenia may consider leaving the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) due to the group’s failure to support Armenia during recent security breaches. Pashinyan’s Civil Contract party member, Gevorg Papoyan, stated that there are specific conditions under which Armenia would leave the CSTO, although those conditions have not yet been met. Pashinyan’s decision not to attend a recent CSTO summit was deemed a technicality by the CSTO secretary general, Imangali Tasmagambetov, who emphasized that Armenia remains an ally. The Russian foreign ministry accused Pashinyan’s government of planning a shift towards the United States and the European Union, but the Kremlin’s spokesperson hopes that Armenia will resume full participation in the CSTO soon.
