“International Collaboration Aims to Protect Cultural and Historical Monuments of Artsakh”
The Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Artsakh has partnered with international organizations to create a list of the most significant monuments in English. According to Sputnik Armenia, the Minister of Education of Artsakh responded to the request, stating that it came from the Artsakh authorities. Nigara Arpadaryan, a member of the Adjudication Council of Artsakh, announced that UNESCО had rejected the request to evaluate the state of the Artsakh monuments with an expert present. The Ministry of Education, Science, and Culture is taking steps to address the situation and has been implementing joint projects with international organizations since 2020 for the protection of cultural and historical monuments in Artsakh.
Efforts have also been made to highlight the protection and preservation of these monuments on various international platforms. Discussions on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and the establishment of a coordination body for monument protection took place in meetings with UNESCO leadership. Additionally, the Ministry of Education, Science, and Culture has compiled a list of 140 important monuments in English, which has been shared with foreign companies for collaboration with international partners. This list includes pictures, descriptions, coordinates, and more.
Representatives from the Ministry of Education, Science, and Culture of the Republic of Armenia consistently raise the issue of protecting cultural and historical monuments in Artsakh and emphasize the need to form international coalitions in international organizations such as UNESCO and ICCROM.
Furthermore, it is worth noting that the Republic of Armenia officially requested the dispatch of a fact-finding mission to investigate the situation in Artsakh after 44 days of war between Armenia and Azerbaijan. However, these efforts were consistently hindered by the Azerbaijani side.
