“Devastating Floods Claim Dozens of Lives in Somalia and Kenya, Leaving Hundreds of Thousands Displaced”

According to the official government news agency SONNA, the recent flooding in Somalia has resulted in a total of 96 casualties. This figure was confirmed by Mahamoud Moualim, the director of the country’s flood management department.

Similar to other regions in the East and parts of Africa, the flooding in Somalia has been ongoing since October and has caused significant damage. According to UNOCHA, the disaster has forced nearly 700,000 individuals to be displaced.

The entire country has been affected by the flooding, resulting in the displacement of residents, destruction of infrastructure, and the spread of waterborne diseases. These diseases have already been present due to years of ongoing violence in the region.

Furthermore, on the Kenyan side of the Red Cross border, the floods have claimed the lives of 76 people. This catastrophe has led to mass displacement, the closure of roads and bridges, and has left many residents without access to clean water and food.
