Prime Minister Pashinyan Calls for Gender Equality in Armenian Military and Security Fields
The issue of gender equality has been a subject of concern for many, including Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, who recently addressed questions on the matter during a live interview with city residents on November 24. One specific concern raised by the Prime Minister was regarding the idea of gender privilege, and how it should no longer have a place in modern society. In his view, there should be no difference in the requirements of military service for men and women, as a soldier is a soldier, regardless of gender.
Pashinyan went on to highlight that many countries are already led by women, and there are female ministers for security as well as female military servicemen. While Armenia may not have female generals yet, there have been significant improvements in recent years with the appointment of female heads of security departments. This positive trend indicates progress towards gender equality within the country.
Nazeilli Baghdasaryan, the spokesperson for Prime Minister Pashinyan, also provided information for those interested in volunteering for mandatory military service or wishing to work in the Police Service of Armenia. Interested individuals can reach out to their local recruitment offices or call the hotline at 1-28 for the Ministry of Defense. For those interested in joining the law enforcement institute and working with the police, they can apply and reach out at 010 77 80 33.
It’s important to note that participation in the call does not guarantee immediate service in the military, as there are certain criteria that need to be met. However, this open call for both men and women showcases the government’s commitment to providing equal opportunities in fields traditionally dominated by one gender. With ongoing efforts and initiatives, Armenia aims to achieve true gender equality in all areas of society.
