“National Assembly Gears Up for Hearings on ‘Armenian Cause’ Program: Recognition of Genocide and Independence of Artsakh at Stake”

Today, the National Assembly will hold hearings on the “Armenian Cause” program, which aims to recognize the Armenian Genocide and the independence of Artsakh as part of a different state.

The program has gained support from the political community, with over 50,000 citizens of Armenia presenting a legislative initiative demanding the recognition of the Armenian Genocide and the independence of Artsakh.

In September 2023, due to the aggression of Azerbaijan, Artsakh suffered complete destruction, making the acceptance of the Armenian Cause program even more urgent. The authorities of Artsakh and the government are working to create public resonance and pressure for international recognition of the Armenian Genocide, as securing recognition is crucial for the security and sovereignty of Armenia.

The acceptance of this program has several benefits. Firstly, it removes the acceptance and implementation of the Genocide from direct government control. Secondly, it protects the self-created statehood of the people from aggression. Thirdly, it defends the state institutions of Artsakh and seeks to save the country’s state institutions through the actions of public officials. Lastly, it prevents unconstitutional intervention by other states.

The situation since November 9, 2020, and September 2023 has demonstrated that the independence of Artsakh and the recognition of the Armenian Genocide are vital for the security, rights, and interests of Armenia and its people. Abandoning the recognition would only serve the government’s enemies and hinder the progress of Armenia.

The “Armenian Cause” program not only protects lives but also aims to unite various forces in its implementation. The initiative called “The Son has come” urges others to join in promoting the importance of the program, countering initiatives that fail to prioritize Armenia’s rights and recognition of Artsakh within another state.

It is important to note that the program follows a specific set of steps. First, a memorandum will be signed, allowing a 60-day period before a referendum takes place according to the Constitutional Act and the law of the Armenian Republic. Once 50,000 signatures are collected, the program will be automatically published and become law. If the National Assembly rejects the program and denies the referendum, an additional 300,000 signatures will be gathered, and the program will be adopted through a referendum held across the entire republic.

In addition, there are plans to hold a rally in accordance with the requirements of the Rally Charter and the Law on the Republic. Similarly, if 50,000 signatures are collected, the program will be legally declared and become a legislative initiative. If the National Assembly rejects the popular initiative and the program, 300,000 more signatures will be collected, resulting in the program becoming a constitutional act. Any future changes to the program can only be made by the entire republic.

The “Armenian Cause” program is supported by numerous organizations and initiatives, such as “People for the Future,” “Armenian Awakening,” “Educational Union,” “Young Enlightenment,” and many more. The unity of national-patriotic forces, cultural organizations, and intellectual public opinion is seen as crucial for the success of the initiative.

In conclusion, the “Armenian Cause” program is an essential step towards recognizing the Armenian Genocide and securing the independence of Artsakh. It not only protects lives but also strengthens the security and sovereignty of Armenia. By gaining support from various organizations and forces, the program aims to bring about positive change for the people of Armenia.
