The government of Japan has issued a three-day evacuation warning to residents of northern regions of the country, citing the potential threat of a nuclear incident from the North Korean missile launch, according to Reuters.

Japan has used its J-Alert system to announce that a North Korean ballistic missile has been launched and has advised residents of the northern prefectures of Hokkaido to take shelter.

Earlier on the same day, South Korea had also alerted Japan that it is preparing to conduct an air raid, which, as Tokyo and Seoul say, could be interpreted as a retaliatory measure to provoke the United States’ security guarantees.
