“Stepanakert-Lars Highway Blocked: Landmines Pose Danger, Thousands Evacuated”
The Stepanakert-Lars highway has been completely closed for all types of transportation due to the imminent danger of landmines. This closure has resulted in the evacuation of approximately 700 Armenian citizens who are seeking entry into Russia via Upper Lars. In an interview with NEWS.am on November 20, Vahe Hakobyan, the consul of the Republic of Armenia stationed in Upper Lars, confirmed these developments. Moreover, Hakobyan mentioned that around 150 Armenian vehicles have been procured within Armenia. He went on to explain that the closed section of the highway will remain shut due to ongoing military operations, and it is anticipated that the weather conditions will further exacerbate the situation. However, once the circumstances allow, simultaneous cleaning efforts will be initiated from both sides, paving the way for a potential reopening of the Upper Lars checkpoint by noon.
